Candidate: Dr. J. Nadine Gracia

Organization: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Candidate Statement:

It is with utmost sincerity and interest that I would be honored to serve on the Global NGO Executive Committee as a Director, representing Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

The COVID-19 pandemic, social and racial injustice, the economic crisis, and exacerbation of gender inequality are a clarion call to accelerate and strengthen the commitment and actions of the NGO community and the UN toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.  As a member of GNEC, I will enhance partnerships to foster structural and transformative change.  My objectives will include ensuring a multigenerational, diverse, equitable, and inclusive framework to all efforts.  I will advocate for the engagement of youth leaders and representation of women, people of color, and other populations who are marginalized.  As a health equity leader, I will bring extensive experience in government, the nonprofit sector, civic organizations, and academia on the national, global, and local levels.  I will contribute expertise in forming multi-sector partnerships, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, and translating complex issues into action-oriented strategies.  GNEC can continue to improve through focusing on intersectionality and multigenerational inclusion.

As Co-Chair of the UN NGO Subcommittee of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., I represent our organization to the UN.  I lead Delta’s partnership engagement with NGOs, GNEC, and the DGC, by co-hosting policy forums, contributing articles to The NGO Reporter, and issuing joint statements on matters of global concern.  I plan Delta’s annual conference during the Commission on the Status of Women and partner with Permanent Missions to the UN.
