Candidate: Dan Viggo Bergtun

Mr. Dan-Viggo Bergtun, is the President of the World Veterans Federation (WVF) since 2015. He is now an active member of the GNEC Strategic Planning Ad Hoc Committee.
The WVF currently consists of over 172 veterans organizations from 142 countries, representing some 60 million veterans worldwide in their mission for peace, security and caretaking of former soldiers.
WVF maintains its consultative status with the United Nations since 1951, was conferred the title: ”UN Peace Messenger” in 1987 and has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize 8 times.
Mr. Bergtun started as a United Nations Peacekeeper in 1978 in the Middle East and has been involved in NGO veteran’s activity since that time.
As a former elected trustee in his country, Norway, he was the leader in the Nordic caretaking of veterans and established a system with branches all over Scandinavia. He has worked closely with various organizations from around the world with the purpose of bringing them together in a joint effort to achieve the 17 sustainable goals to be achieved by 2030.
Dan believes that NGOs play a particularly important role in this work. NGOs are the bridge-builders between the sustainable goals and the community and should take advantage of this position to make volunteering, society, and the UN stronger. He has extensive experience in networking and has built subcommittees in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. His strengths are organizational building, versatility, international viewpoint and human motivation. Dan is a highly respected in his professional environment and with his progress he has shown an ability to always come up with good solutions.
